The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). 800-377-8555. AOTA can link you to you state's organization, which you can contact to find and occupational therapist who is trained and experienced in working with children and/or adults with sensory issues.

Western Psychological Services. This publisher has a list of occupational therapists who are certified to perform the Sensory Integration Praxis Test (SIPT).

Sensory Processing Disorder Network. This site offers articles about SI dysfunction and connections to support groups. It also sponsors workshops.

SPD Parent Connections. SPD Parent Connections (SPD PC) is a grassroots network that provides support, information, and understanding to anyone who lives with a child who has a Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) or wants to learn more about these developmental disorders.

S.I. Focus Magazine. A quarterly magazine for parents and professionals interested in SI dysfunction.

Raising a Sensory Smart Child: The Definitive Guide to Helping Your Child with Sensory Integration Issues by Lindsey Biel and Nancy Peske. This book explains sensory integration and sensory integration dysfunction in a way that parents can understand. It provides practical, hands-on examples for helping the child at home, in school, and in other settings. This is a must read for all parents who have children with sensory integration issues

The Out of Sync Child by Carol Kranowitz. The Out of Sync Child is the popular book on sensory integration dysfunction written for parents. In this book, Carol Kranowitz provides explanations, examples and treatment strategies for different types of sensory integration issues in children - including oversensitivity and undersensitivity to touch, taste, smell, sound, or sight, and/or to movement sensations, unusual activity levels, and problems with motor coordination. Carol also recommends sensory integration books and tapes for parents and therapists.

AUTISM SPECTRUM/PDD

The Autism Perspective Magazine. The Autism Perspective magazine was founded upon the passionate philosophy that those living with and treating Autism Spectrum Disorders and Pervasive Developmental Disorders should have a single resource that presents the full perspective of options to encourage and inspire us and make every family feel a little less alone in its struggles, hopes and dreams.

Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is dedicated to helping families find answers by Autism by spearheading the assembly of a large central database of children with autism that will provide, for the first time, the standardized medical records that researchers need to conduct accurate clinical trials. Autism Speaks was founded by Bob and Suzanne Wright. Bob Wright is Vice chairman of GE and chairman and CEO of NBC. Their grandson was diagnosed with Autism several years ago.

Autism Society of America. The society promotes advocacy, public awareness, education, and research on autism and related disorders such as Asperger's syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). Its site covers a wide range of topics including how to get medical help and early assistance, recommended reading material and where to buy it, addresses of helpful national organizations, and information on autistic children's educational rights.

ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADD)

National Attention Deficit Disorder Association The Attention Deficit Disorder Association's site offers a wealth of information for families living with ADD. In addition to basic primers on the disorder and its treatment options, you'll find topic areas specifically devoted to family and school issues, plus a section just for kids. If you want to know what the latest research has to say about ADD, this is the site to visit.

DELAYS AND DISABILITIES

Brookes Publishing. Brookes Publishing publishes highly respected resources in early childhood, early intervention, inclusive and special education, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, literacy, communication and language, behavior, and mental health.

Developmental Delay Resources. A nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of those working with children who have developmental delays in sensory motor, language, social, and emotional areas. DDR publicizes research into determining identifiable factors that would put a child at risk and maintains a registry, tracking possible trends. DDR also provides a network for parents and professionals and current information after the diagnosis to support children with special needs.

LD Online. A service of the Learning Project, produced by a PBS radio station in Washington, D.C., LD Online is a comprehensive site with a wealth of resources on a range of learning disabilities, from speech and language disorders to attention deficit disorder. You'll find general information articles on warning signs, assessments, treatments, and action plans, as well as expert Q&As and live chats with learning disability specialists. Keep in touch with other parents on the LD Online's bulletin boards.

PARENT RESOURCES
Babycenter.com for new and expectant parents and Parent Center.com, Web resources for parents of children ages 5 to 8, helps you find the information and support you need during pregnancy and in caring for a baby, toddler, or child. These web sites offer guidance, with easy-to-use sites that feature original high-quality content and practical advice from trusted sources such as obstetricians, pediatricians, developmental experts, nutritionists, and fellow parents.

KidsHealth Sponsored by the Nemours Foundation (established in 1936 by Alfred I. duPont), the KidsHealth site helps promote the foundation's mission — to improve children's health. You'll find basic resources on baby and toddler development, behavior and emotions, food and fitness, and growing up healthy. Games and animated cartoons make it a fun place for children and teens to visit, too.

Interactive Metronome, 877-994-6776, This is a program for increasing focus, reading, language processing, organizational ability, and fine motor skills while decreasing impulsivity. It is a computer-based program that is done in fifteen one-hour sessions over three to five weeks. Using hands and feet, students work to get in sync with the metronome.

Gluten-free Diet. Provides gluten-free, caseinfree recipes.
